What Is a Typing Interview?

A typing interview is a structured conversation — typically 60–90 minutes — where I guide you through a series of questions designed to surface the patterns of attention, motivation, and experience that point toward your Enneagram type.

This isn’t a test. There are no right or wrong answers. Instead, we explore how you actually experience the world: where your attention goes, what drives you, what feels difficult, what you avoid without realising. Through conversation, we narrow in on the type that fits — not the one that flatters, but the one that’s true.

The typing interview process was developed over four decades by The Narrative Enneagram. As a Certified Enneagram Typing Professional (CETP), I’ve been trained specifically in this method.

Who Is This For?

A typing interview is most useful if you’ve been exploring the Enneagram and find yourself stuck between two or three types, if you’ve taken tests that give different results each time, or if you want the confidence of having explored your type with a trained professional rather than relying on self-assessment alone.

Some people come having done years of Enneagram work and wanting confirmation. Others come relatively new to the system and wanting a solid foundation. Both are welcome.

What to Expect

We meet online via Zoom. The conversation is relaxed, warm, and confidential. I’ll guide the process; you don’t need to prepare anything specific, though it helps to have read a little about the types beforehand.

By the end, we’ll have explored the types that seem most relevant to you, and I’ll share my observations. Sometimes we land on a clear type; sometimes we narrow it to two, with a strong sense of which is more likely. Either way, you’ll leave with a much deeper understanding of yourself and how to continue exploring.

Not Sure You’re Ready?

The free typing exploration is a self-guided written reflection — you answer open-ended questions in your own words and receive a personalised PDF suggesting 2–3 types to investigate. It's a good starting point, but it's not the same as working with a trained professional in real time. A typing interview goes deeper: we follow the threads of your actual experience together, and I can hear things in how you speak that no written tool can pick up.
